Don Norman: 3 ways good design makes you happy

Don Norman is an author and design critic that discusses why design makes you happy. He states that his new self is seeing the beauty in things and making things neat and fun. He studies people’s reactions to designs, beauty, and peoples obsession with aesthetics and beauty.  He shows a design of a Ping-Pong table that has a projection of fish and water on it. When the ball hits the table, the water ripples. He states that this isn’t a logical design, but that it is fun. This is important because the user feels emotion while using the product. Norman says that when someone is happy, they become a brain stormer and experience out of the box thinking because of the chemical balance of their brain. If someone is happy, things work better because of the increased amount of creativity. Visceral level of processing causes viewers to like bright colors which attract them to fun and colorful design. He states that you can do this in design by color, shape, and type fonts to attract viewers.
