Marvin Heiferman starts off by stating that there isn’t a single
or simple story that can be told about photography because it means something
different to everyone. We need, use, and respond to photographs in different
ways and for many different reasons. Photographs are how we look and take them
to see and experience the world around of us. Recently, camera purchases have
dropped because everyone has started to use the cameras on their phones.
Photographs have so much power that they can change what we want, what we see,
who we are, what we do, where we go, and what we remember. The power and beauty
that photography is capable of is amazing and it hurts the photographer inside
of me to think that people would rather take pictures with their phones than a
camera. Sure it’s convenient, but it just isn’t the same but then again, maybe I’m
biased.
